It’s Official – Mass Layoffs Happening
Elon Musk acquired control of Twitter at the end of October after several months of back and forth. Before the sale was finalized, the newly-minted owner of the social media site made it plain that he would introduce significant changes to the business. He started implementing those changes a week into his administration.
On November 3, Musk started letting people go. The platform’s 7,500 employees were prepared for the potential that they would lose their jobs soon. Many people’s initial indication was the failure of their workplace email addresses. Some people reportedly found out they had lost their employment in the middle of the night.
Twitter’s head of content moderation, Yoel Roth, tweeted that management has reduced the Trust and Safety team’s headcount by 15%. The “fundamental moderation skills remain in place,” he added.
