Ron DeSantis Requests Punishment for Looters
Hurricane Ian destroyed Florida. One of the worst storms to ever affect the peninsula. Numerous houses were demolished or left unoccupied, providing opportunities for robbers. On October 4, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) addressed the problem during a press conference.
According to the governor, three of the four people detained in Lee County during the hurricane were unauthorized immigrants. The governor reportedly said he would like to “pull” the accused criminals “out by the collars” and “send them back to where they came from,” according to The New York Post. He continued by saying that even if the suspects should be prosecuted, they should also “be sent back to their own country” since they don’t belong in Florida.
Charges of breaking into an uninhabited building during an emergency led to the arrest of all the suspects. DeSantis claimed that shop owners had placed messages like “you loot, we shoot” on the boards covering their establishments’ windows. He emphasized that accessing someone’s property is a danger that might become fatal and that Florida is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment.
