The Biden administration’s decision to supply MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine recently caused an uproar in the media. One of the most potent defensive systems used by the American military, Patriots is capable of intercepting tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. As one might anticipate, Russian authorities are keeping an eye on the issue and recently threatened Washington directly.
During a press conference on December 15, Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, attacked President Joe Biden’s administration. She informed reporters that although Americans intended to send Patriots to Ukraine, “experts challenged the rationale of such a step.”
Like the Biden administration described the action, the Russian embassy in Washington described it as a “provocative step” that could have “unpredictable effects.”
Vladimir Putin, the president, has repeatedly threatened to intensify the conflict in Ukraine, even to the point of using nuclear weapons. In response, Republican senators questioned the scope of President Joe Biden’s efforts to give Ukraine significant amounts of US money, military equipment, and ammunition.
What do you think about the US’s current degree of participation in the situation in Russia and Ukraine?
