Biden Asked to Declare a New Weapon Of Mass Destruction

Must Read

Over the last decade, America has been devastated by the opioid crisis. For the first time, the United States recorded more than 100,000 overdose deaths in 2021. This is primarily due to the presence of fentanyl on the streets. Several state attorneys general have now petitioned the president for action.

Ashley Moody, Florida’s attorney general, wrote to President Joe Biden in July, requesting that fentanyl be recognized as a weapon of mass destruction. Now, 17 Democratic and Republican attorneys general have backed her request. Moody highlighted in her letter earlier this summer that America lost more than twice as many people to synthetic opioids as it did during the Vietnam War. She also stated that the drugs endanger individuals who come into contact with them, such as police officers and paramedics.

In an interview with Fox News, Moody pointed to the border crisis as an issue making the spread of the drug worse.

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen (R) issued a statement in support of Moody’s idea. The statement includes a portion of the letter written to Biden by the top prosecutors, which stated that “strong action must be taken.” They advised POTUS that the country could not “sit idly by until a terrorist chooses to cause harm using fentanyl”.
