Ocasio-Cortez Goes After Kevin McCarthy for His Silence on Pelosi Attack
Democrats are still using the attack on the husband of the House speaker from the previous week as a weapon. This time, the notorious “Squad” boss is spreading rumors, and she has the House minority leader as her target. She ignores the reality that many Republicans have denounced the savage assault, like other Democrats.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) complained on Twitter the day after the incident, accusing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) of justifying threats against her while remaining silent about the attack on Ms. Pelosi. Despite not publicly mentioning the attack when AOC published her tweet, McCarthy strongly condemned the threats against AOC, and it eventually emerged that he had spoken privately with Speaker Pelosi just hours before the news broke.
Many other Republicans, meanwhile, have vocally denounced the attack. Senator Mike Pence, a former vice president, termed it an “outrage,” while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) described himself as “horrified and outraged.” Democrats, meanwhile, are keeping very quiet about the fact that Paul Pelosi’s attacker would have been deported to Canada 20 years ago if their party hadn’t been so lenient on illegal immigration.
