Lindsey Graham Accused of Illegal Violation
In Georgia’s runoff election, Republicans attempt to stop Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) from winning. Significant GOP figures raised money for their candidate, Herschel Walker, in the run-up to the election. One such request for donations might get a politician into trouble.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) spoke about the election on Fox News on November 30. To assist the Republican in “narrowing the deficit,” he urged voters to visit Walker’s website and “donate five or ten bucks.” Jaime Harrison, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), posted a video of the conversation and charged Graham with breaking the law.
Any government employee who “solicits or receives a donation of money” for any election while in a facility or room used for official business is prohibited under 18 U.S.C. 607. Additionally, it is forbidden to solicit donations on the grounds of the US Capitol, according to 40 U.S.C. 5104(c).
