Another Democrat Flirts With Idea of Defunding Police
Following George Floyd’s death in police detention in 2020, the cry to “defund the cops” gained traction among the extreme left. Despite attempts by many mainstream Democrats to distance themselves from the movement, others still support it, such as Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (CT).
On November 27, the senator spoke on local law enforcement’s resistance to enforcing new federal gun control rules when he appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. He questioned whether “we want to continue to fund” police departments who don’t follow orders.
The senator’s proposal to cut funding for police forces is blatantly at variance with the stance of prominent GOP officials on the subject. It has been a critical talking point against Democrats since 2020 for people like former president Donald Trump, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
Given some law enforcement agency’s failure to enforce laws, do you think Murphy’s idea was realistic, or does it just amount to a radical Leftist position?
